The United Nations has carried out a scheduled inspection of Ugandan troops serving in Somalia under the United Nations Guard Unit Eleven (UNGU-XI). The soldiers, who are part of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), are stationed in Somalia to help maintain peace and protect UN facilities.
The inspection was led by Mr. Suzdaliev Andrii, a Logistics Officer from the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS), together with Maha Al-Khatteb, a Contingent-Owned Equipment Officer. Their mission was to check whether the equipment used by the Ugandan soldiers meets the high standards set by the United Nations.
“This inspection helps us make sure that the tools and vehicles being used are safe, reliable, and properly maintained. It also helps with transparency and makes sure everything is in line with the UN’s peacekeeping goals,” Mr. Andrii said.
Captain Elapar Ali, who is in charge of logistics for UNGU-XI, welcomed the inspection. He said it’s important for such checks to happen often to make sure their systems are working well and are accountable. “These inspections help us stay ready and meet the expectations of the UN,” he said, adding that the visiting team gave helpful feedback that the unit truly appreciated.
The inspection was attended by officers and soldiers from the Ugandan unit, and it showed the strong cooperation between the UN and UPDF in supporting peace and stability in Somalia.
This routine but important check highlights Uganda’s commitment to professional peacekeeping and ensures that its troops continue to perform at the highest standards while on international duty.
