Police at Kira Road are investigating a tragic road accident that claimed the life of a motorcyclist on Monday, 29th July 2025. The accident happened at around 3:00 PM along the Northern Bypass, near the Kisasi Flyover in Kampala.

According to police, the accident involved a CAF King Long Bus—orange in color and registered under number UA 19059AA—which is assigned to the Uganda Cranes, the national football team. The bus was being driven by Khalid Ahmed when the incident occurred.

It is reported that the bus driver swerved suddenly to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming trailer. In the process, the bus hit a motorcycle, registration number UFB 122F, killing the rider instantly. Police say the identity of the deceased rider is still unknown as investigations continue.

The body of the rider was taken to the City Mortuary at Mulago for a postmortem examination. The bus and the motorcycle involved in the crash have been taken to Kira Road Police Station, where they are being kept for further inspection by the Inspectorate of Vehicles (IOV).

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, and more information is expected to be released once the investigations are complete.

Police have extended their condolences to the family of the deceased and are urging all drivers, riders, and pedestrians to be more careful and responsible on the road. “We call upon all road users to exercise maximum caution to prevent such tragic incidents,” said ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Police Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan.

This accident comes as a painful reminder of the dangers on Uganda’s roads, especially on busy highways like the Northern Bypass. Authorities are calling for calm as they continue to look into the exact cause of the fatal crash.
