Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has said there are only four people in Uganda whom he cannot arrest, naming President Yoweri Museveni, First Lady Janet Museveni, Gen Salim Saleh and Maama Jovia.
In a post on X, Muhoozi wrote: “They are only 4 people I cannot arrest in Uganda. President Museveni, Maama Janet, Afande Saleh and Maama Jovia. The rest I can. We will start with the most corrupt.”
The statement has sparked debate, with Muhoozi suggesting that he has the authority to take action against other individuals whom he considers corrupt.
Muhoozi did not name the people he intends to target or provide details about what criteria would be used to identify those he referred to as “the most corrupt.”
The remarks come amid his recent posts on issues involving political figures, accountability and possible government action against individuals accused of wrongdoing.
Muhoozi, who serves as Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, has in recent days made several public statements touching on national issues, including forgiveness, political reconciliation and the fight against corruption.
His latest comments are expected to generate further discussion about the role of security institutions in addressing corruption and accountability in Uganda.
