Uganda joined the rest of the world in commemorating the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons with a powerful national event held at Mestil Hotel in Kampala. The event recognized the hard work and commitment of police officers who have played a big role in fighting human trafficking in the country.
Three officers were specially honored for their outstanding efforts. Retired Commissioner of Police (Rtd CP) Moses Binoga and Inspector of Police (IP) Ojang John Robert were given Lifetime Achievement Awards. These awards recognized their many years of dedicated service in protecting vulnerable people from trafficking. Deputy Superintendent of Police (D/SP) Kemigisha Nusura was also celebrated for her excellent work in investigating and helping to successfully prosecute human trafficking cases.
The event was led by the Minister of State for Internal Affairs, General David Muhoozi. In his speech, he praised the officers for their bravery and service. He also called on all government agencies, civil society organizations, and international partners to work more closely together. He stressed the need to protect victims, raise public awareness, and strengthen laws and policies to stop human trafficking.
General Muhoozi reminded everyone that ending human trafficking is a shared responsibility. He urged all Ugandans to stay committed to building a country where every person is safe, respected, and free from exploitation and abuse.
This special day served not only to honor those on the front lines but also to renew the nation’s determination to fight this terrible crime and protect the dignity of every citizen.
