A tragic incident occurred in the early hours of August 3rd, 2025, at Masindi Government Prison, where one inmate was killed by another in a violent attack. The victim, Moses Tuhame, a convicted prisoner serving time for aggravated defilement, lost his life after being assaulted by another inmate, Anatoli Irumba, who is on remand for the murder of his own mother.
The violent act took place at around 4:00 AM inside the TB isolation ward, where both prisoners were being held. It is still unclear what led to the brutal attack, but sources say there was no prior warning before the incident happened. Tuhame suffered severe injuries and was quickly rushed to Masindi Hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life. Sadly, he passed away a few hours later due to the wounds inflicted during the assault.
The Uganda Police have since taken over the investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to this shocking event. A postmortem examination will be conducted, and Tuhame’s body will be handed over to his family afterward.
The Uganda Prisons Service expressed deep sorrow over the unfortunate death and extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased. Frank Baine Mayanja, the Senior Commissioner of Prisons and Service Spokesperson, shared the official statement and prayed for the soul of Moses Tuhame to rest in eternal peace.
This sad incident raises serious questions about safety and supervision within prison walls, even in isolation wards. Authorities are expected to review the security protocols to ensure such a tragedy does not happen again.
