Go pay for your sins!! Court Remands Former MUBS Principal Prof Balunywa

Must read

Former Makerere University Business School (MUBS) principal, Professor Waswa Balunywa, has been remanded to Luzira Prison following his appearance in court over abuse of office allegations. The prosecution claims that during his tenure, between February and April 2023, Prof Balunywa irregularly recruited three individuals as administrative assistants without the required academic qualifications. These appointments allegedly led to ineligible costs for the government, forming the basis of the corruption case.

In addition to the initial charges, Prof Balunywa faces new allegations linked to the illegal recruitment of 103 academic staff, 17 administrative staff, and 69 support staff. According to the prosecution, these appointments should have been made by the designated appointing committee, as required by law. The court has remanded him until September 5, pending further proceedings.

The case has drawn significant public attention, as it highlights alleged irregularities in one of Uganda’s leading academic institutions. Stakeholders are closely watching how the justice system handles the matter, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in public office. The unfolding events continue to spark discussions on the importance of following proper recruitment procedures in government and public institutions.
