The fight against corruption within the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has intensified, with 10 senior officers, including some holding the rank of General, recently arrested and detained at Makindye Military Barracks and Kasenyi Barracks in Entebbe. The detentions were carried out under the orders of Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, according to intelligence obtained by the Spyreports team.
Highly placed sources indicate that the ongoing investigation is focused on the UPDF Logistics Department, where officers are accused of fraudulent practices, including inflating procurement budgets, engaging in kickbacks, delivering substandard materials, and creating fictitious “air” supplies.
The crackdown is reportedly not limited to uniformed officers. Civilians, including prominent city businessmen, are also under scrutiny for their involvement in fraudulent army supply contracts. While the Spyreports team has access to the names of the detained officers and civilians under investigation, these details are being withheld for now.
The UPDF Logistics Department, which operates under the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MODVA), oversees combat logistics, transport, procurement, mobility, and training. In recent years, the department has focused on modernizing its systems, reducing resource misuse, and improving operational efficiency through updated logistics manuals and structured training programs.
Sources say the CDF is conducting a systematic cleanup across the UPDF, tackling departments one at a time. The operation reportedly began with the Finance Department, where several officers were arrested, others forced to refund misappropriated funds, while some were sent on leave, study programs, or sidelined.
“I can assure you, the Finance Department has been thoroughly cleaned; theft there has been neutralized. The current focus is on the Logistics Department, and they will soon feel the heat,” a senior military source revealed to the Spyreports intelligence team.
Engineering Brigade Also Targeted
The Engineering Brigade, responsible for many of Uganda’s construction and infrastructure projects, has also been affected by the anti-corruption drive. Earlier this year, its former commander, Col. Godfrey Tukamwakira, was arrested over corruption allegations, with the Inspector General of Government (IGG) reportedly scrutinizing his personal wealth.
