Police in Nsangi have recovered a motorcycle that was reportedly stolen four years ago, leading to the arrest of three suspects believed to be connected to the theft and sale of motorcycles in Wakiso District.
The recovered motorcycle is a Bajaj Boxer, registration number UDF 719Q, which was reportedly stolen in 2022 from a victim at Buwali Cell in Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District. The motorcycle remained missing until police traced it and recovered it on Monday, August 31, 2026.
According to police, the motorcycle was found at around 9:00 a.m. in the possession of Ssemanda Ronald, aged 45, a resident of Buwali Cell in Kyengera Town Council. His possession of the motorcycle reportedly raised questions that prompted police to carry out further inquiries into how it came into his hands.
During questioning, Ssemanda allegedly led detectives to two other men whom he claimed had sold the motorcycle to him. Police subsequently arrested Byekwaso Gitta, 48, of Kyambaazi Cell, and Yiga Juma, 25, of Kitemu Cell, both in Kyengera Town Council.
The investigation then widened after police recovered several other motorcycles, motorcycle frames, engines and assorted spare parts believed to be connected to the suspects. The recovery has raised further questions about a possible wider motorcycle theft and resale operation in the area.
Among the motorcycles recovered are UED 757A, a Yamaha Mate; UDA 599X, a Jagwa; UDA 841L, a Mate; UDB 031Y, a Mate; UEE 408V, a Mate; UDD 224V, a Mate; UDB 475N, a Mate; UEC 006Z, a Yamaha; UDX 927N, a Bajaj; and UDC 132U, a Mate. Police also recovered another motorcycle bearing registration number UG 0701E.
In addition to the motorcycles, officers recovered three Mate motorcycle frames, two motorcycle engines and assorted motorcycle spare parts. The recovery of these items is expected to help detectives establish whether they were obtained through other motorcycle theft cases reported in the area.
The three suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue. Police are expected to establish the ownership and history of the recovered motorcycles and parts, as well as determine whether more people are involved in the suspected theft and sale of motorcycles.
The case also highlights the importance of reporting stolen motorcycles and keeping proper ownership documents and registration details. Police investigations are ongoing, and further arrests could follow as detectives examine the recovered items and information provided by the suspects.
