“We Have Taken Note” Police Investigate Viral Videos of Officers Destroying Bobi Wine’s Campaign Posters

Must read

The Uganda Police Force has launched an investigation after videos surfaced on social media allegedly showing police officers tearing down a candidate’s posters during operations.

The two clips, which went viral yesterday, 24 September 2025, were reportedly recorded in Mbale City and in Kampala’s Central Business District. They show men in police uniform pulling down posters that appeared to belong to an opposition candidate.

The videos quickly sparked anger among members of the public, with many questioning the neutrality of police in the run-up to the 2026 elections. Some accused the force of acting in favor of certain political groups while frustrating others.

In a statement released this morning, police confirmed they had seen the footage and had already opened inquiries into the incidents. Authorities promised to review the videos carefully to identify the officers involved and establish the circumstances under which the posters were torn.

“The Uganda Police Force has taken note of the two videos circulating on social media. We are committed to ensuring professionalism and impartiality, and any officer found in breach of conduct will face disciplinary action,” part of the statement read.

The police further urged the public to remain calm as investigations continue, assuring citizens that no one is above the law, not even security officers.

Political analysts argue that such incidents, if confirmed, could undermine public trust in state institutions ahead of the 2026 elections. They have called for transparency and accountability from the police to avoid perceptions of bias.

Several activists have also reminded police that their duty is to protect all Ugandans equally, regardless of political affiliation. They emphasized that the destruction of campaign material is unlawful and interferes with democratic processes.

Meanwhile, opposition supporters have demanded immediate action, saying mere investigations are not enough. They want the implicated officers suspended until the probe is completed.

The incident comes at a sensitive time, as political campaigns intensify across the country. With the elections drawing closer, the police will now be under even greater scrutiny to prove that they can enforce law and order without favor or discrimination.
