A dark cloud has fallen over Uganda after a tragic road accident claimed 63 lives and left several others injured along the Kampala–Gulu Highway. The devastating crash occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, 22nd October 2025, at around 12:15 a.m. at Kitaleba Village, near Asili Farm. The accident has been described as one of the deadliest road disasters the country has witnessed this year.

According to reports, the fatal collision involved four vehicles — an Isuzu bus belonging to Nile Star Coaches (registration UBF 614X), another Isuzu bus from Planet Company (registration UAM 045V), a Toyota Surf (registration CGO 5132AB 07), and a Tata lorry (registration UBK 647C). The impact of the crash was so severe that several passengers died on the spot, while others sustained critical injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Eyewitnesses at the scene described the aftermath as heartbreaking. Wrecked metal, shattered glass, and cries for help filled the air as rescue teams and locals struggled to save survivors from the mangled vehicles. Authorities have since cordoned off the area as investigations continue to determine the cause of the accident, which is suspected to have resulted from reckless driving and high speed.

Police have urged drivers to be extra cautious on the roads, especially during the night, to prevent more loss of life. The tragic incident serves as a painful reminder of the importance of road safety and the devastating consequences of neglecting it. For many families, this day will forever be remembered as one of unimaginable loss and sorrow.
