Eng. Christine Mugimba, the Director of IT & Research at the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), represented UCC Executive Director at the recent International Summer School hosted by Kampala International University (KIU) over the weekend.
The program, organized in partnership with Utrecht University in the Netherlands, brought together students from Africa and Europe to explore opportunities for building a diverse and digitally-driven future. The initiative offered participants a platform to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and foster collaboration across continents.
In her remarks, Mugimba praised KIU’s vision for creating a space that encourages cross-continental learning, innovation, and teamwork. She highlighted the importance of such initiatives in equipping young leaders with the skills to navigate an increasingly digital world.
The discussions at the summer school focused on critical issues such as combating misinformation and disinformation, as well as promoting responsible and ethical digital communication. Participants examined practical strategies to ensure digital platforms remain reliable, inclusive, and secure.
Mugimba emphasized that embracing digital transformation requires both awareness and action, urging students to become advocates for responsible digital practices in their communities. She expressed confidence that such collaborative programs would help shape a generation of innovators and problem-solvers prepared to lead in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
The KIU International Summer School served as a timely reminder of the role educational institutions play in building bridges between continents, fostering innovation, and preparing students to tackle the challenges of a connected, digital future.
