Must read

Traffic Police in Hoima are searching for the driver and conductor of a Link Bus, registration number UBK 989Z, after they were found carrying more passengers than allowed. The bus was moving from Kasese to Bweyale when the incident was reported. A concerned passenger noticed the risky overloading and decided to raise the alarm by sharing the information on social media platforms.

The passenger’s quick action helped alert police authorities in time. According to the Traffic Police, they immediately began tracking the bus after receiving the tip-off. This kind of cooperation between the public and the police is important, especially during times when road accidents tend to increase due to careless driving and misuse of public transport.

Police officers managed to locate the bus and intercept it at Buswekere along the Hoima–Fort Portal road. However, before they could take control of the situation, the driver and conductor chose to abandon the bus and escape. Their sudden disappearance shocked many passengers and showed a clear attempt to avoid responsibility for their dangerous actions.

The abandoned bus was later secured by the police, who ensured that all passengers were safe. Officers also took statements from witnesses to help in identifying and arresting the fleeing crew. The police stated that overloading remains one of the major causes of road accidents and promised to intensify operations to stop such practices.

Authorities praised the courageous passenger who took the step to report the situation. They said such acts show that the public can play a major role in preventing road tragedies. By speaking out, the passenger not only protected themselves but also helped safeguard the lives of many others on the road.

Police have now urged all passengers to remain alert and report any unsafe behavior by drivers and conductors. They reminded the public that protecting lives on the road is a shared responsibility. When passengers and authorities work together, it becomes easier to stop reckless actions and keep everyone safe.
