Gun fire Rocks Nansana As Police Chase Serial Car Thieves

Must read

Police in Wakiso district were involved in a shooting incident on January 6, 2026, after a suspect tried to escape during a pursuit. The event occurred in Nansana Ngando, where authorities successfully apprehended one of the individuals involved in the theft of a silver Noah vehicle and other stolen property.

The incident began on January 5, 2026, when Mr. Walungana Edward, a resident of Muduuma, reported a case of theft at Muduuma Police Station. He claimed that his vehicle, a silver Noah (M/V REG UBQ 073U), had been stolen along with cash amounting to 20 million Ugandan shillings, a TV screen, a smartphone, and other valuables. Police immediately began investigating the case, and on January 6, they received information on the possible location of the stolen vehicle.

A police team led by AIP Kanya Moses began following the trail, which took them through several towns, including Kiboga, Kyankwanzi, Singo, Kapeka, Nakaseke, Luwero, and Bombo. The suspects were eventually located in Nansana Ngando, where they attempted to flee from the police.

As the suspects tried to escape, one of them, identified as Ntege Salimu, attempted to run away on foot. In response, AIP Kanya Moses fired six warning shots at intervals in an effort to prevent the fleeing suspect from evading capture, and to protect the crowd from harm as a mob gathered with intentions to harm Ntege. Thankfully, the situation did not escalate further.

Ntege Salimu was arrested and taken to Mpigi Police Station, where he is currently being held. However, other suspects managed to escape and are still on the run. Police recovered numerous items from the scene, including several number plates of different vehicles, one of which matched the stolen vehicle’s registration plate. A TV screen and various breaking tools were also recovered, along with government-issued equipment such as handcuffs and pepper spray, which had been taken from the stolen car.

Authorities have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and the search for the remaining suspects continues. The recovery of the stolen items and the arrest of one of the suspects is a significant step toward solving the case and ensuring that justice is served. Police urge the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to help prevent such crimes in the future.
