Local Government Minister Balaam Barugahara has ordered the interdiction of three senior officials at Mbarara City following allegations of financial loss and abuse of office.
The officials affected include Mbarara City Clerk Justine Barekye, Deputy City Clerk Simon Ejua, and City Engineer Hillary Mugisha. Their interdiction means they have been temporarily removed from their duties as investigations into the allegations continue.
The decision is part of government efforts to promote accountability, transparency, and proper management of public resources in local governments. The Ministry of Local Government has continued to take action against officials accused of misusing their offices or failing to protect government resources.
According to the directive, the officials will be required to step aside while relevant authorities carry out investigations into the claims raised against them. The move is aimed at ensuring that the investigation process is conducted without interference.
