A total of 1,030 Ugandans who were recently repatriated from South Africa have received a message of hope, responsibility and national duty from the Director of the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), AIGP Tom Magambo, as they continue with a rehabilitation and reintegration programme at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi.
During a special lecture of opportunity, AIGP Magambo engaged the participants on issues concerning Uganda’s national priorities, including socio-economic transformation, strategic security and regional integration. He placed these priorities within a wider global historical context, explaining the importance of every citizen playing a role in shaping the future of the country.
The CID Director encouraged the returnees to view their current programme as an opportunity for personal growth, reflection and preparation for a better future. He urged them to embrace positive values such as patriotism, discipline, hard work and responsible citizenship as they prepare to reintegrate back into their communities.
AIGP Magambo emphasized that Uganda’s progress depends on citizens who are willing to contribute solutions rather than create challenges. He challenged the participants to become problem-solvers who can use their skills, experiences and determination to support peace, stability and development.
He noted that security is not only the responsibility of security agencies but a shared responsibility among all Ugandans. According to him, citizens who respect the law, promote unity and actively participate in economic activities contribute greatly to the country’s transformation.
The lecture also highlighted the importance of understanding Uganda’s position in the region and the world. AIGP Magambo explained that regional cooperation and integration are key factors in promoting economic growth, security and opportunities for citizens.
The rehabilitation and reintegration programme at NALI is aimed at equipping the returnees with knowledge, values and skills that can help them successfully rebuild their lives and contribute positively to society.
The CID boss encouraged the participants to use the opportunity to develop a new mindset focused on responsibility, innovation and service to the nation. He reminded them that every Ugandan has a role to play in building a peaceful and prosperous country.
As they continue with their training, the 1,030 returnees are being encouraged to become ambassadors of positive change in their communities and examples of how rehabilitation can lead to meaningful transformation.
