Inside the 2025 PLE Results! Performance, Prison Schools, and Exam Integrity

Must read

The Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataha Museveni, has officially released the 2025 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) results at State House Nakasero, bringing relief, excitement, and reflection to thousands of candidates and parents across Uganda. The results show interesting performance trends, with girls performing better than boys in English, while boys took the lead in Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. This highlights both progress and the need for continued support to help all learners improve across every subject.

Special candidate groups, including learners in prison schools, also showed determined efforts. At Uganda Government Upper Prison School Luzira, 61 candidates were registered, but 58 sat for the exams. Among those, 4 scored Division 1, 27 got Division 2, 13 achieved Division 3, 5 were in Division 4, while 9 were ungraded. At Mbarara Main Prison Inmates Primary School, 40 candidates registered and 39 sat. The results showed 7 candidates in Division 1, 15 in Division 2, 10 in Division 3, 5 in Division 4, and 2 ungraded. These results show that education continues to give hope and a second chance, even in difficult environments.

However, the examination body, UNEB, raised serious concerns about malpractice. Executive Director Dan Odongo explained that cheating has become more daring. In some cases, school directors and headteachers reportedly bribed or even threatened scouts and invigilators so teachers could help candidates inside exam rooms. This worrying trend threatens the fairness and credibility of national examinations, and authorities are expected to take stronger action to protect the integrity of future exams.

Looking ahead, the Minister announced that the selection exercise for Senior One will take place on 12th and 13th February 2026. UNEB has also made it easier to access results. Examination centres can download their results from the Centre Portal immediately after release. District, Municipal, and City Inspectors of Schools will collect hard copies from UNEB offices in Ntinda starting Monday, 2nd February 2026.

Parents and candidates can also receive results quickly through SMS on MTN and Airtel networks. By following the correct procedure, candidates’ results will be sent directly to their mobile phones, making access faster and more convenient.

Overall, this year’s PLE results show effort, resilience, and achievement, but also remind the country of the need to fight exam malpractice and ensure fairness for every learner.
