Police are investigating a tragic drowning incident that occurred at Lutembe Beach in Bweya Ward, Wakiso District. The incident happened on 14th February 2026 at around 4:00pm, when 29-year-old Arinaitwe Obadia, a resident of Lugoba, Kawempe Division, reportedly moved into a deeper section of the water while swimming with colleagues. Despite efforts from those present, he could not be rescued in time.
Authorities from Kajjansi Police visited the scene, recorded statements from witnesses, and transported the body to Mulago National Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination. Police emphasized the importance of observing water safety rules, especially in areas known to have deep sections that can be dangerous for swimmers.
Following the incident, beach management has been instructed to clearly mark deep-water zones and to coordinate with police whenever large crowds are expected. ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer of Kampala Metropolitan Police, urged the public to take swimming safety seriously to avoid such tragic accidents in the future.
