Police Tighten Grip on Robbery and Drug Hotspots in Wakiso and Mukono

Must read

Police in Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) East and KMP South have arrested 147 suspects in a large security operation carried out on 17th February 2026 in Wakiso and Mukono districts. The coordinated operation followed a rise in cases of robbery, mugging, burglary, and drug-related crimes in the two districts. The move is part of ongoing efforts to restore calm and protect communities from criminal activity.

In Wakiso District, officers at Kirinya Police Station in Bweyogerere Division, under Kira Division Police, arrested three suspects accused of attacking and robbing members of the public. The suspects were identified as Waiswa Sabastiano, Omara Moses Innocent, and Abila Jimmy. According to police reports, the trio allegedly waylaid victims while armed with a panga, sticks, a brick, and a paver. Their arrest followed intelligence-led operations targeting violent offenders in the area.

Meanwhile, in Mukono District, officers from Nagalama Police Division carried out an operation in Kyampisi Subcounty, specifically in Kabembe Suburb. Thirteen suspects were arrested for being in possession of suspected narcotic substances. Police say drug abuse and trafficking have been contributing to increased criminal behavior in the area, prompting targeted interventions.

In a separate operation under KMP South, Kabalagala Police Division arrested 125 suspects from Kansanga, Nsambya, Kabalagala, and Kibuli. The suspects are believed to have been involved in various criminal activities, including robbery and illegal possession of narcotic substances. The arrests followed intensified patrols and intelligence gathering in known crime hotspots.

Security forces also conducted an operation in Wantoni, Mukono Central Division, where police working together with the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) arrested six suspects. During the operation, two numberless motorcycles suspected to have been used in committing crimes were recovered. Authorities believe motorcycles without number plates are often used by criminals to avoid identification.

All the suspects are currently in police custody and are awaiting prosecution. Police have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that anyone found guilty will face the law. They emphasized that these operations are not one-time events but part of a wider strategy to reduce crime.

Police further assured residents of Wakiso and Mukono that such disruptive operations will continue, especially in areas identified as crime-prone. They called upon members of the public to cooperate with security agencies by sharing information that can help prevent crime and ensure safer communities for everyone.
