Early this morning, tragedy struck in Kyakabuga village, Kyankwanzi district, when a bus traveling from Kampala to Hoima collided head-on with a Fuso fighter truck coming from Hoima. The accident happened around 4:00 a.m. on the Kiboga-Hoima highway and caused a massive fire that completely burned both vehicles.
Six people died on the spot, including two passengers from the bus and four occupants of the Fuso truck. Among the deceased are Muhumuza Gerald, 40, the bus driver and resident of Hoima West Division, and Linongola Matsukizo, 47, a Congolese businesswoman. The identities of the four people in the Fuso truck are still unknown.
Seven other people were critically injured and rushed to Kikonda Health Center for medical attention. The bodies of the deceased were taken to Hoima Hospital Mortuary. Rescue teams from Kyankwanzi and Hoima, including firefighters from Hoima, responded quickly and helped put out the fire.
The wreckage of the vehicles is still at the scene, and authorities are making efforts to tow them away. Motorists using the Kiboga-Hoima road have been advised to be very careful when approaching Kyakabuga, as part of the road remains closed. Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
SSP L. Kigozi of PRO Wamala Region expressed condolences to the families affected, saying, “Our hearts are with the bereaved and injured.”
