NRM Crushes NUP In Mityana Village Elections By 77% As Independents Also Shine

Must read

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) registered a commanding victory in the Mityana District Village Women Local Council elections, winning 475 out of 613 villages, representing 77% of the total seats.According to the Electoral Commission results, independent candidates won 103 villages (16%), while the National Unity Platform (NUP) secured 32 villages (5%). The People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) won one village, and all villages recorded successful nominations.Political observers note that a significant number of the independent winners are believed to be NRM-leaning candidates who contested after failing to secure the party flag during the primaries. This means candidates aligned with the NRM won an even larger share of the seats than the official party figures alone indicate.NRM recorded particularly strong performances in subcounties including Kikandwa (48 of 57 villages), Bulera (47 of 58), Maanyi (42 of 47), Busimbi (43 of 49) and Kalangalo (43 of 54).The results underline the NRM’s continued dominance in Mityana District at the village level, while NUP and other political parties secured only a small share of the available positions. The performance is expected to strengthen the ruling party’s grassroots structures ahead of future electoral contests
