In a heartwarming and timely effort, the Government of Uganda has successfully coordinated the repatriation of students who were studying at Ahlul Bayt International University in Iran. The students, who had been caught in an uncertain situation, can now return home, thanks to the tireless work of Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, embassies in Iran and Turkey, and the office of the Permanent Secretary. These efforts have demonstrated the government’s commitment to the welfare and safety of its youth, ensuring their swift return to Uganda despite the challenges faced.
The first group of students, who were studying in Iran, is expected to arrive this evening at 6:00 PM aboard Ethiopian Airlines. Their safe journey home marks a significant milestone in the ongoing repatriation process, which continues to involve dedicated efforts from all parties involved.
The Ugandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, alongside embassies in Iran and Turkey, has played a critical role in ensuring that the students are brought back safely. With ongoing efforts, Uganda aims to repatriate the remaining 53 students currently studying at QOM University in Iran. These efforts reflect a deep commitment to supporting the country’s future leaders, especially those who are far from home and studying under sometimes difficult circumstances.
Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, Barugahara Balaam Ateenyi, expressed his deep appreciation to His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his unwavering leadership in the operation. His praise also extended to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and all embassy staff in both Iran and Turkey, acknowledging their dedication and coordination in what has been a complex process. The support of these institutions is a testament to Uganda’s strong diplomatic network and the government’s deep care for its citizens abroad.
With the ongoing efforts to ensure the safe return of all the students, this operation has truly demonstrated the importance of government collaboration at all levels. Ugandans across the globe can take pride in knowing that their country’s leadership remains steadfast in protecting its young people, ensuring they are safe and supported no matter where they are.
This repatriation effort is not just a win for the students but also a powerful message to all Ugandans: the government is committed to securing the future of its youth, wherever they may be studying. As the first group of students makes its way home, they serve as a symbol of the country’s resilience and commitment to its citizens, a reflection of a government working tirelessly to make a difference in the lives of its people.
