Police in KMP South have recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against crime after arresting four suspects in separate operations targeting cattle theft and aggravated robbery. The successful operations were carried out with the help of joint security teams and members of the local community.
According to the Uganda Police Force, the first operation took place on 7th March 2026 in Kasanje Town Council after several residents raised concerns about increasing cases of cattle theft in the area. Security teams made up of police officers, soldiers from the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF), and community members launched patrols in suspected crime hotspots.
During the patrols, the joint team searched several areas known for criminal activities, including Bimbi Swamp. It was during this operation that officers managed to recover a white-spotted heifer belonging to Mr. Sserwagi Augustine. The animal had reportedly been stolen earlier, causing concern among local farmers who depend on livestock for their livelihood.
Police arrested a suspect identified as Zimbwe Ramathan, a resident of Kyengera, in connection with the theft. He was taken into custody and is currently detained at Kasanje Police Station where he has been formally charged with cattle theft. Authorities say investigations are still ongoing to determine whether he could be linked to other livestock theft cases in the area.
In a separate incident on the morning of 9th March 2026 at around 3:30 AM, police responded to an aggravated robbery in Kabaale B Ward, Katabi Town Council. According to reports, three suspects armed with pangas broke into the home of Patrick Kagenda Amooti, aged 63, and his father Prof. Charles Kagenda Atwooki.
The suspects allegedly threatened the victims and stole Shs 570,000 in cash along with a Samsung Galaxy Note 10 smartphone. However, their attempt to escape did not last long after police quickly responded to the scene following an alert.
Security officers surrounded the house and conducted a search. To their surprise, the suspects had hidden themselves in the ceiling of the house in an attempt to avoid arrest. Police managed to flush them out and arrested them without further incident.
The suspects were identified as Sekitoleko Acram, Oluka Robert, and Mbazira Bashir. During the arrest, police recovered the stolen Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and Shs 240,000, which was part of the money taken from the victims.
Police have confirmed that investigations into both cases are still ongoing as authorities work to gather more evidence and determine whether the suspects may be connected to other criminal activities in the area.
The police leadership has also commended the local community for their cooperation and timely sharing of information, which played a key role in the success of the operations. Authorities have encouraged residents to continue working closely with security agencies by reporting suspicious individuals and activities in their neighborhoods.
Officials say such collaboration between the public and security agencies remains an important tool in the fight against crime and in ensuring safer communities across the country.
