Must read

Police at the Kabalagala Division have launched investigations into a fire outbreak that destroyed several vehicles at motor vehicle garages in Kibuli, a suburb of Kampala. The incident happened in the early hours of Friday, 13th March 2026, at around 12:18 a.m. at garages located in Mutajazi A Zone, Kibuli Parish in Makindye Division.

According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Luke Owoyesigyire, officers from the Police Fire Prevention and Rescue Services quickly responded after receiving reports about the fire. The team managed to contain and extinguish the flames before the situation could spread further to nearby structures and properties.

Preliminary findings show that two garages were badly affected by the fire. During the incident, about ten motor vehicles were severely damaged after being caught up in the flames. However, several other vehicles that were parked nearby were successfully rescued by the firefighters and people at the scene before the fire could reach them.

Fortunately, no deaths or injuries were reported. Residents and workers who were in the surrounding area were quickly evacuated to safety as the fire crews worked to control the blaze. Authorities also confirmed that the structures that were destroyed were temporary garage structures commonly used for vehicle repair work.

Police have not yet established the exact cause of the fire, and investigations into the incident are still ongoing. Officers are expected to interview witnesses and examine the scene in order to determine what might have started the fire.

Meanwhile, the police are urging the public, especially people who operate garages and workshops, to be careful when using open flames or other fire sources near temporary structures. They say following basic fire safety measures can help prevent similar incidents that may lead to major losses.
