Police have arrested five suspected members of a robbery gang believed to be behind a series of violent robberies across Kampala and neighboring districts. The suspects were arrested during an intelligence-led operation conducted by officers from Katwe Police Division following investigations into a robbery targeting a mobile money outlet in Wakiso District.

According to police, the gang allegedly struck on July 6, 2026, at around 3:30 a.m. when five assailants reportedly broke into a mobile money shop located in Kisingiri Cell, Bunamwaya Parish, Bunamwaya Division in Wakiso District. During the raid, the suspects allegedly stole an unspecified amount of cash and several mobile phones before fleeing the scene.

The breakthrough came two days later when police received information indicating that some of the suspects were hiding in Nabisalu near the market in Katwe I Parish, Makindye Division, Kampala District. Acting on the intelligence, security officers launched an operation that resulted in the arrest of five suspects identified as Muwanguzi Believer Eddie, Kato Faisal, Katongole Shafic, Kiyingi Abudallah, and Tumwine Derrick.

Following the arrests, police conducted searches at various residences linked to the suspects. During the operation, officers recovered two pangas believed to have been used in criminal activities. The weapons were recovered from Gangu B Cell in Busabala Parish, Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipality.

Investigators say preliminary findings have connected the suspects to several other robbery incidents that have recently occurred within the Kampala Metropolitan Area. Among the cases under investigation is a robbery at a boutique in Seeta, Mukono District, which took place on July 3, 2026. Police reports indicate that a black Toyota Noah was allegedly used during that robbery. The suspects are also being linked to another robbery at a lending office in Kawempe Division, Kampala District, as well as several other incidents that detectives are still investigating.

Police investigations further revealed that the gang allegedly hired motor vehicles to facilitate their criminal operations and move between different locations. As part of the ongoing investigations, officers recovered and impounded two vehicles believed to have been used by the suspects. The vehicles include a grey Toyota Noah registration number UBR 796R and an off-white Toyota Wish registration number UA 120CU.

The five suspects are currently being held in police custody as investigations continue. Authorities say efforts are underway to identify and arrest other individuals who may have been working with the gang. Detectives are also examining evidence recovered during the operation to establish the full extent of the group’s activities.

Kampala Metropolitan Police have reaffirmed their commitment to combating violent crime and ensuring that all individuals involved in robbery cases are brought before the courts. Police spokesperson SP Rachel Kawala said investigations remain ongoing and urged members of the public to continue sharing information that can help security agencies track down criminals operating within their communities.
