UBOS, Tooro Kingdom Partner to Strengthen Data Sharing for Development

Must read

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) and the Tooro Kingdom have agreed to collaborate on the creation, sharing, and use of statistics to support effective planning and development. The agreement, reached after two years of discussions, was finalized at UBOS headquarters in Kampala in the presence of senior officials from both institutions.
Dr. Chris Mukiiza, the Executive Director and National Statistician at UBOS, said the partnership will improve cooperation and reduce the cost of accessing data. He explained that UBOS will now be able to obtain statistics directly from the Kingdom without incurring extra expenses. “This will make our work easier because we can quickly access the data we need through simple communication,” he noted.
He added that the strong relationship between UBOS and Tooro Kingdom began during the 2024 National Housing and Population Census. He commended the Kingdom for its professionalism and neutrality, which contributed to credible census results. Dr. Mukiiza also revealed plans to establish a joint statistics committee and a dedicated unit to strengthen collaboration further.
He stressed that accurate data is key to development, as it ensures that planning and budgeting are based on facts rather than guesswork. Without proper statistics, he warned, institutions risk underestimating or overestimating their needs.
The Prime Minister of Tooro Kingdom, Armstrong Akiiki Rwomiire, said the partnership builds on earlier engagements that began in 2024 but were delayed due to administrative changes. He welcomed the agreement, saying it will help the Kingdom make informed decisions.
“With reliable statistics, we now understand our population better and can plan and allocate resources more effectively,” Rwomiire said, emphasizing the importance of data in driving sustainable development within the Kingdom.
