Police in Kampala have launched investigations into a fatal stabbing incident that left a male hawker dead at BMK Plaza in the city centre.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police, the incident happened on 10th July 2026 at around 4:30 p.m. on the ground floor of BMK Plaza. Preliminary investigations indicate that a confrontation started between a security guard and a male hawker after the hawker was allegedly asked to leave the building.
Police said the disagreement later turned violent, leading to a physical confrontation in which the security guard allegedly stabbed the hawker in the chest. The victim reportedly collapsed at the scene and was later pronounced dead.
The suspect has been identified as Ian Mugisha, a security guard attached to Security 2000. Police officers responded quickly and arrested him in connection with the incident. The suspected weapon believed to have been used in the stabbing was also recovered.
The body of the deceased, whose identity has not yet been established, was taken to the KCCA City Mortuary where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to help determine more details about the death.
Kampala Metropolitan Police said investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances that led to the fatal confrontation. Authorities are expected to gather more information from witnesses and other people who may have been present during the incident.
Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed that further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
