Erias Lukwago, Ugandan lawyer and former Kampala Lord Mayor, has been reported in multiple circulating accounts to have been abducted following an alleged attempt to serve legal documents to Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba. The claims, which have spread widely on social media and among political commentators, describe a tense and sudden security operation.
According to these reports, security personnel allegedly surrounded Lukwago’s residence in the early morning hours before entering the compound. Some accounts further allege that drones were seen hovering around the area shortly before armed individuals accessed the home. It is also claimed that he was taken from his bedroom, leaving his family in shock and without information about his whereabouts.
The situation has triggered strong reactions online, with many people expressing alarm and demanding urgent clarification from authorities. Supporters of opposition politics, legal professionals, and human rights advocates have called for transparency and immediate information regarding his location and condition.
The reports also link the incident to ongoing legal and political tensions involving opposition leader Kizza Besigye’s trial, where Lukwago is said to be part of the defense team. Some claims suggest he had been preparing legal action related to alleged human rights violations connected to Besigye’s arrest in Kenya. These details, however, are part of circulating accounts and have not been independently verified through official confirmation.
The developments have intensified public debate, especially given the highly sensitive political environment and previous public exchanges involving senior military leadership. As the situation continues to develop, many are awaiting official communication to clarify what has taken place and where Lukwago is currently held.
