Must read

The Defence and Veterans Affairs shadow minister and Makindye East member of Parliament Hon Derrick Nyeko has written to the parliamentary defence committee and veteran affairs requesting this committee to summon the Army Commander Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba saying , he is not only undermining the integrity of the armed forces but also posses a direct threat to the rule of law , democratic governance as well as the safety of civilians.

Nyeko also wants Gen Muhoozi to answer other concerns before this committee including: The militarization of politics and use of UPDF to intimidate and threaten civilians, including political figures.

“I have written with utmost urgency to formally
request that the Minister of Defence and the Chief of
Defence Forces (CDF) be summoned to appear
before the Defence Committee at the earliest possible opportunity. This request once again arises
from growing concerns regarding the erratic and
unprofessional conduct exhibited by the Chief of
Defence Forces, which threatens to undermine the integrity, discipline, and public trust in our national defence institutions.
Such conduct not only raises serious questions about the leadership within the armed forces but also has the potential to compromise national security and civil-military relations. It is imperative that these concerns be addressed in a transparent and accountable manner through the appropriate
parliamentary oversight mechanisms”. Said Nyeko
