Police have recovered a stolen tipper vehicle in Matugga, Kampala Metropolitan Area, and arrested three suspects who were travelling in the vehicle.
The vehicle, registration number UBE 438L, a blue Canter tipper, was reported stolen at Bukuya Police Station on September 3, 2026, by its owner, Mr Sserugo Muzamiru.
According to police, the vehicle went missing after its driver, identified as Habibu, parked it at MM Garage in Bukuya Town following work in Lubaali.
Police said unknown people drove the vehicle away from the garage at about 3:00am, prompting the owner to report the matter to Bukuya Police Station.
Following the report, officers from Bukuya Police Station visited the scene and documented it with the help of the Scene of Crime Officer as investigations into the theft began.
Police then used CCTV cameras along the roads to track the stolen vehicle as it moved away from Kassanda. The CCTV footage helped officers trace its movements until it was intercepted in Matugga within the Kampala Metropolitan Area.
The vehicle was recovered and taken to Matugga Police Station, where it was parked as investigations continued.
Three people who were occupying the vehicle at the time of interception were arrested and detained at Matugga Police Station. They are expected to be transferred to Bukuya Police Station in Kassanda for further investigation and prosecution.
Wamala Region Police spokesperson SSP L. Kigozi commended the importance of timely reporting in cases involving stolen vehicles.
Police have advised vehicle owners and other victims of theft to report such incidents immediately to enable law enforcement agencies to coordinate quickly and track stolen vehicles before they are moved to distant locations.
Police noted that CCTV cameras installed along major roads have continued to prove useful in tracking stolen vehicles, identifying suspects and supporting efforts to intercept them.
The recovery of the Canter and arrest of the three suspects highlight the importance of rapid reporting and coordination between different police stations when dealing with vehicle theft cases.
