The Uganda Police Force has spoken out following a tragic road accident that claimed the lives of eleven people and left several others injured. The fatal crash occurred in the early hours of April 7, 2026, at around 1:30 a.m. at Kalegero Corner along the busy Masaka–Mbarara Highway in Lwengo District.
According to preliminary reports, the accident involved a bus belonging to Kasaba Bus Company, registration number UAL 492H, and a Tata lorry, registration number UBH 013Q. The two vehicles collided under circumstances that are still being investigated, leading to a devastating scene that shocked both residents and travelers using the highway.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene to assist the victims. Those who sustained injuries were rushed to Lyantonde Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment. Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased were also transported to the same facility and placed in the mortuary as authorities prepare for post-mortem examinations.
The incident has once again raised concerns about road safety, especially during late-night travel. Many accidents on highways occur at night due to factors such as poor visibility, driver fatigue, and speeding. While the exact cause of this particular crash is not yet known, police have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and more details will be shared once available.
