Police are investigating a shocking incident in Kiryanongo village, Kyankwanzi district, where two men were lynched by an outraged mob after human flesh was discovered in their home. The men, identified only as Ssemasaka and Hakiza Damaseni, both of Rwandan origin, were killed after a horrific scene was uncovered at their residence. The grisly discovery came to light when a neighbor reported a strange, foul smell emanating from their house, leading villagers to investigate and uncover a crime that would shake the entire community.
The unsettling events began late yesterday evening when a neighbor of Ssemasaka reported the unusual odor coming from his dwelling. Suspecting something was wrong, the concerned neighbor informed others in the village, and together, they decided to conduct an impromptu search of the house. What they found inside was truly horrific. The men’s home contained a human body stuffed inside a sack, with part of the right leg protruding out. Additionally, chunks of human flesh were found in a saucepan, seemingly prepared to be cooked.
The body was later identified as Vensi, a local woman from Nakabugo village, who had been missing for several days. Vensi, a known prostitute in the area, had not been seen or heard from until her remains were uncovered in the home of the two men. It is believed that she had met a tragic end, her body gruesomely dismembered, and some of her flesh was being prepared for consumption.
The shocking discovery incensed the villagers, who immediately jumped to the conclusion that the two men were involved in cannibalism. In a swift and violent response, the mob acted without hesitation. Ssemasaka and Hakiza were overpowered and brutally lynched, their lives cut short by the hands of an angry crowd seeking retribution for the horrifying crime they had uncovered.
The Chairman of Kiryanongo village quickly reported the incident to the Bananywa subcounty police station, and local law enforcement arrived at the scene under the command of Kyankwanzi’s District Police Commander (DPC). The bodies of the three victims—the two men and the woman—were taken to Ntwetwe Health Center 4 for post-mortem examinations. Police have launched an investigation into the deaths, with inquiries focusing both on the murder of Vensi and the mob justice that followed.
While the authorities work to uncover the full details of the crime, there has been a strong call from police to discourage mob violence. In a statement, the police appealed to the public to refrain from taking justice into their own hands, emphasizing that no matter how severe the crime may seem, all suspects should be treated fairly and have the right to a legal trial.
This tragic incident has raised serious concerns about the dangers of mob justice and vigilantism. As the investigation continues, many in the village are still reeling from the horror of the discovery and the violent aftermath. Authorities are urging the public to respect the rule of law and allow justice to follow its proper course, rather than resorting to violent, unlawful actions.
The case has shocked the entire community, leaving many asking how such a brutal and tragic crime could happen in their midst. For now, the focus remains on uncovering the truth behind the deaths and ensuring that justice is served for all involved.
