The executive Director of Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) Hon Nyombi Thembo has said the institution has started the process of reviving Old Kadongo Kamu Music to ensure that the original owners or legends can financially gain from it.
He made the remarks while launching the Atakulaaba heritage Music initiative yesterday at Hotel Mestil in Nsambya a Kampala Surburb.
” We have started this journey and we have to finish it and we shall recognize all artists,” He says adding that communication or music is not about phones,servers,Musts but rather content. He says Kadongo Kamu singers must earn money from their music. “Currently Musicians like Spice Diana and others earn money from their Music and will even buy planes, yarchets among others,” He states adding that Ownership of Kadongo Kamu was canceled long time ago.
“We must ensure that whenever you list their music, owners must earn a living,”he sounds adding that they will bring Music to new era.
“We shall reduce the 20 minutes songs to 3 minutes. We shall use Artificial intelligence (AI) without changing the meaning and Content,” Says UCC Boss. He added that Music started long ago with call music and this should not die. ” We had good music from the likes of Nyonza, Katende, Elly Wamala among others but the original seed is dying and we must bring it back,”He sounds adding that UCC will start helping old Artists starting with the likes of Hadija Nanere.
The event was graced with people from Buganda Royal Family that included Omurangura Wassajja, JW Katende, Former Finance Minister Maria Kiwanuka, Pastor Bujingo, Kin Karisa among others.
The Kadongo Kamu legends who attended and performed live include Abdul Murasi, Mathias Walukaga, Dan Mugula, Lord Fred Sebatta, Maureen Kamara among others.
The official launch will be held on 31 July at Sheraton hotel in Kampala.
