Bank of Uganda reported a shocking overnight break-in at its Head Office on Kampala Road, where seven laptops were stolen. The unlawful entry was discovered early Monday morning, 4 May 2026. The office, located near City Square and between Church House and the East African Development Bank Tower, became the target of this daring theft.
Despite the incident, the bank reassured the public that all core operations and services are fully functional. Customers can continue accessing services without any disruption, as daily banking activities remain unaffected.
The matter is now under investigation. BoU management confirmed that they are working closely with relevant security agencies to determine how the break-in occurred and to take measures to prevent future incidents.
The bank asked the public for patience as investigations continue and promised to share updates as more information becomes available. The incident has raised concerns about security at major institutions, but BoU’s swift response aims to reassure employees and the public alike.
