Kakiri Police Division is investigating a shocking case of kidnap and murder that has left the local community in fear.
According to police reports, the tragedy unfolded in the early hours of May 4, 2026, when Ssewakilyanga Tony, a 25-year-old tricycle operator from Kikubampanga Cell, Kakiri Town Council, was abducted. Tony was reportedly targeted by Magala Ibrahim and other suspects whose identities remain unknown. The assailants reportedly went to Tony’s home in search of money, but when they found none, they forced him to call his father, demanding a ransom for his release. Unfortunately, the father was unable to meet the criminals’ demands.
The suspects then moved Tony to Kikajjo Cell, where he was killed, and his body was abandoned. Police, with the help of local leaders, were able to arrest one suspect, 27-year-old Magala Ibrahim. A knife believed to have been used in the murder, as well as the deceased’s mobile phone, were recovered from him.
The Kakiri Police Division, assisted by the K9 unit, traced Tony’s body to Kikajjo Cell. Officers documented the crime scene and collected several exhibits for forensic analysis. The body has been taken to Mulago Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Authorities emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, and efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects continue. ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, warned the public against involvement in violent crimes and urged community members to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
The incident has sent shockwaves through Kakiri Town, highlighting the urgent need for vigilance and cooperation between the police and the community in preventing crime.
