Police in Matuga are investigating circumstances surrounding the alleged murder of a 17-year-old male juvenile whose body was discovered in an unfinished building in Wakiso District under mysterious circumstances.
The deceased has been identified as Austine, a resident of Nalusuga Village in Kasangati Town Council. According to preliminary police findings, the teenager worked as a milk hawker operating around Buwambo Trading Centre. On 9 May 2026, Austine reportedly left his home early in the morning for his usual work routine but never returned home, causing concern among family members and residents.
Hours later, his lifeless body was reportedly discovered inside a building that was still under construction near Flourish Day Care and Nursery School in Najjo Zone, Kanywamusulo Cell, Gombe Division. The shocking discovery left residents in fear and confusion as police officers quickly rushed to the scene to begin investigations.
Police later introduced a canine unit to help track possible suspects connected to the killing. According to reports from the scene, the sniffer dog allegedly picked up a scent and traced it into Flourish Day Care and Junior School. The dog reportedly entered one of the classrooms where the school askari is said to spend the night and sat down before continuing towards the Buwambo–Katadde main road, where the trail eventually ended.
During the search, police officers are said to have recovered exhibits suspected to contain bloodstains from the baby class section and also from a Primary Two classroom within the school premises. The discovery raised more questions about what could have happened before the teenager lost his life.
Following the incident, the head teacher of Flourish Day Care and Nursery School, identified as Muganga Moses, was arrested by police to assist with investigations. Authorities say more arrests are expected as detectives continue gathering evidence and recording statements from witnesses and area residents.
The tragic death of the young milk hawker has shocked the local community, with many residents demanding justice for the teenager. Others described Austine as a hardworking boy who struggled daily to earn a living through selling milk around the trading centre.
Police have since assured the public that investigations are ongoing to establish the exact motive behind the killing and identify all the people involved in the crime.
