Tooro Celebrates as Three Sons Rise to Major General in UPDF Promotions

The people of Tooro are celebrating after several of their sons were promoted to senior ranks in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), marking a significant milestone for the region. The promotions have been widely welcomed as recognition of years of dedicated service, professionalism and commitment to protecting the country.

Among those promoted are Maj Gen Chris Bagonza, who rose from the rank of Brigadier General and continues to serve as Chief of Staff – Land Forces. Also promoted is Maj Gen Godwin Karugaba, who now serves as Joint Staff Logistics after being elevated from Brigadier General. Maj Gen Micheal Nyarwa was also promoted from Brigadier General and serves as the Commander of the Marine Brigade. Several other officers also received promotions during the exercise.

The promotions have been described as well deserved, with many praising the officers for their discipline, leadership and outstanding service to Uganda. Throughout their military careers, the officers have held important responsibilities and have contributed to strengthening the country’s defence and security.

Leaders and residents from Tooro have expressed pride in the achievements of the promoted officers, saying their success reflects the hard work, determination and commitment that the region continues to produce. They noted that the promotions will inspire many young people to pursue careers in public service and serve the country with dedication and integrity.

The officers were congratulated for reaching another important stage in their military careers. Supporters said the new ranks come with greater responsibilities, and they expressed confidence that the officers will continue to perform their duties with professionalism, courage and patriotism.

The message of congratulations also recognised the role of the Chief of Defence Forces, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, for promoting and entrusting the officers with higher responsibilities. Many described the promotions as a sign that commitment, hard work and good leadership continue to be recognised within the UPDF.

The promotion of the three senior officers has brought joy not only to their families but also to the wider Tooro community. Residents said seeing local sons rise to the rank of Major General is a proud moment that demonstrates the opportunities available to those who serve the nation faithfully.
