Four suspects have been charged before the Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court over the alleged theft of seven laptops worth Shs 35.4 million from the Bank of Uganda. The case has drawn public attention due to the involvement of both alleged thieves and individuals accused of receiving the stolen property.
The accused include 19-year-old Boaz Kule Michael, a casual worker from Makindye, and Kabuye Ramadhan, a bus conductor. They are accused of breaking into the central bank premises located along Kampala Road on May 3, 2026, and stealing seven laptops from the institution.
The two are jointly charged with Isaac Rubangakene, a mobile phone accessories dealer, and Jorem Jude Oedo, a 43-year-old bus computer technician from Kyengera. The latter two are accused of receiving and retaining the stolen laptops, an offence that is treated seriously under the law as it involves handling suspected stolen property.
When the charges were read in court, all four suspects denied the allegations against them. The magistrate then ordered that they be remanded to Luzira Prison until May 29, 2026, pending further mention of the case.
Authorities also confirmed that six of the seven stolen laptops have so far been recovered, suggesting ongoing efforts to trace the remaining item and possibly gather more evidence linked to the break-in. The case is expected to continue attracting attention as investigations proceed and the suspects await their next court appearance.
