Police in Nateete are actively investigating the tragic murder of a five-year-old girl whose body was recovered from a water stream in Rubaga Division, Kampala.
The deceased has been identified as Babirye Mariam, a juvenile who reportedly disappeared from her parents’ home in Betania Zone, Ndeeba Ward, on the night of 22 May 2026 at around 8:00 p.m.
According to preliminary findings, the child had been playing outside with fellow children before she went missing. Her parents later became concerned after she failed to return home and subsequently reported the matter to Katwe Police Station the following day.
On 24 May 2026, Mariam’s body was discovered floating in the Nalukolongo water stream in Kaboowa Zone, Mutundwe Parish, Rubaga Division. Police officers responded to the scene and successfully retrieved the body for further examination.
Police say investigations into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death are ongoing, and efforts to identify and apprehend the suspects involved have already commenced.
The Police have since urged parents and guardians to remain extra vigilant and closely monitor their children at all times, especially while playing outside, in order to protect them from potential danger.
