Shock in Mukono as Aspiring Sub-county Speaker Collapses and Dies at Public Event

Police in Mukono have launched investigations into the sudden death of Kitata Henry, a Parish Councillor for Katente Parish, whose unexpected passing has left residents, leaders, and supporters in shock.

Kitata, who was approximately 30 years old, was a resident of Namakwa Village in Katente Parish, Nakisunga Sub-county, Mukono District. According to preliminary reports, he had been battling an illness for the past three days and was receiving medical treatment. Family members and close associates reportedly believed his condition was improving, giving hope that he would soon recover fully.

On Thursday, 29th May 2026, Kitata left his home to attend a swearing-in ceremony at the Nakisunga Sub-county Headquarters. As a respected local leader, he joined fellow officials and community members for the important event. However, while the ceremony was underway, his health suddenly worsened, causing concern among those present.

Witnesses quickly responded and rushed him to Herona Medical Centre for emergency treatment. Despite their efforts to save his life, medical personnel pronounced him dead upon arrival at the facility. The news of his death spread rapidly across the district, leaving many residents struggling to come to terms with the loss of a young leader who was actively serving his community.

Kitata was the Directly Elected Councillor for Katente Parish and had recently declared his interest in contesting for the position of Speaker of Nakisunga Sub-county. His political ambitions and commitment to local leadership had earned him recognition among residents and fellow leaders.

Police have since commenced investigations to establish the exact circumstances surrounding his death. Authorities say the body has been transferred to Mulago National Referral Hospital, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the precise cause of death.

As investigations continue, residents of Nakisunga Sub-county and the wider Mukono District are mourning the loss of a promising leader whose life was cut short unexpectedly. Police have urged the public to remain calm and allow investigators and medical experts to complete their work before any conclusions are drawn regarding the cause of death.
