Husband Arrested After Killing Wife With Axe

Police in Sheema District are investigating a tragic incident in which a 45-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her husband in what authorities believe was a case of domestic violence that escalated into murder.The incident occurred on the night of 2nd June 2026 at Katojo Central Village, Katojo Parish, in Masheruka Sub-county. According to police reports, the case was officially reported the following day, 3rd June 2026, prompting immediate action from law enforcement officers.The deceased has been identified as Tuhaisomwe Edrida, a resident of the same area. Her husband, Muhabwe Innocent, aged 34, has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in police custody as investigations continue.Preliminary findings suggest that the conflict began as a domestic dispute between the couple. Earlier on the same day, the deceased had reportedly filed a complaint against her husband for failing to provide basic needs for their children. This complaint led to a police summons, requiring the suspect to report to authorities on 3rd June 2026.However, police say that before he complied with the summons, the suspect allegedly became violent. He is said to have threatened local leaders and also damaged the banana plantation belonging to the area chairperson, further escalating tensions in the community.Later that night, before police could fully intervene in the developing situation, it is alleged that the suspect armed himself with an axe and attacked his wife at their home, killing her on the spot. The shocking incident left the community in fear and deep sorrow.Police responded to the scene, documented the evidence, and recovered the suspected murder weapon. The body of the deceased was taken to Kabwohe Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination to assist with ongoing investigations.Authorities have strongly condemned all forms of domestic violence, urging couples and families to seek peaceful and lawful ways of resolving disputes instead of resorting to violence. They also encouraged members of the public to promptly report threats or early signs of conflict to prevent such tragedies.Police have assured the public that investigations are still ongoing and further updates will be provided as more details emerge. Meanwhile, condolences have been extended to the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time.
