Kampala Metropolitan Police, in collaboration with other security agencies and community stakeholders, conducted a series of coordinated disruptive operations between 4th and 5th June 2026 targeting known crime hotspots in Mukono District, Kira Municipality, and Nakawa Division. The operations were aimed at dismantling criminal groups, reducing drug abuse, and improving public safety in areas identified as high-risk for crime.
In Mukono District, police focused on Kigombya and nearby areas within Mukono Central Division, as well as Namuyenje in Nakisunga Sub-county. In Kigombya, two suspects were arrested from a location known for electric cable theft. Officers recovered a roll of electric cable wire believed to be stolen property. The suspects were taken into custody and are awaiting prosecution. In Namuyenje, the operation led to the arrest of eleven suspects from black spots linked to a range of criminal activities including robberies, burglaries, theft, gambling, and drug abuse. Authorities say the area has long been a gathering point for individuals involved in criminal behaviour. All suspects were detained as investigations continue.
The operations also extended to Kira Municipality, where police targeted Kireka A, Kireka B, and Kireka C zones, including Obojja Ghetto and Kireka Farmers Market. In this sweep, 30 suspects were arrested while allegedly selling and consuming illicit substances. Police reported that these areas have been under surveillance due to rising concerns about drug-related crime. The suspects are now facing charges related to possession of narcotic substances. In Nakawa Division, another joint operation was carried out in Katoogo Slums, Kinawataka Zone One, Kaggo Zone, and Mbuya One Parish. Ten adult male suspects were arrested from locations identified as criminal hideouts linked to substance abuse, robberies, and house breakings. Authorities confirmed that exhibits were collected to support ongoing investigations and future prosecutions.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police, these operations are part of a wider strategy to disrupt criminal networks and restore safety in affected communities. The police emphasized that similar operations will continue in other identified hotspots to ensure law and order is maintained.ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, reiterated the force’s commitment to working with communities and security partners to fight crime and protect residents across the metropolitan area.
