Kampala Metropolitan Police has arrested three suspects in separate incidents involving possession of pangas during ongoing security operations aimed at preventing violent crime and improving public safety across the city and surrounding divisions. The arrests were made during coordinated patrols carried out by police officers, other security agencies, and community security members.

The first incident happened on 3rd June 2026 at around 3:40 a.m. in Kikoni B Zone, Wandegeya Division. During a joint patrol, officers noticed a man later identified as Mutebi Michael, aged 40, behaving suspiciously. When he saw the security team, he attempted to run away but was quickly intercepted. A search was conducted, and officers recovered a sharp panga hidden in his trousers. The suspect claimed he was carrying the weapon for personal protection, but he was still arrested, and the panga was taken as evidence for further investigations.

In a separate operation on 4th June 2026 at about 12:45 a.m., two other suspects, identified as Wamuziri Jonathan and Luyima Emmanuel Kayizi, were arrested in Kira. According to security reports, the suspects were allegedly involved in attacking members of the public while moving on a motorcycle. During the interception, officers found a panga concealed under the seat of the motorcycle they were using. The motorcycle was also impounded as investigations continue, and the suspects are currently being held at Kira Police Division.

Kampala Metropolitan Police has praised the vigilance and cooperation of security teams and members of the public, noting that such collaboration is key in fighting crime. Authorities have also encouraged residents to remain alert and report any suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station to help prevent further incidents.

Investigations into both cases are still ongoing as police work to establish full circumstances surrounding the arrests and related criminal activity.
