The Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson has met senior police commanders from across the country as preparations for the upcoming Local Council and Women Council elections gather momentum. The high-level engagement, held at Police Headquarters, was convened by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and focused on strengthening coordination between election officials and security agencies ahead of the polls.
The meeting brought together Regional Police Commanders, District Police Commanders, officers from the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), and intelligence personnel. The gathering was aimed at ensuring that all security agencies are fully prepared to support a peaceful, transparent, and well-organized electoral process.

Delivering the keynote address, the EC Chairperson highlighted the important role security agencies play in maintaining law and order before, during, and after elections. The Chairperson emphasized the need for professionalism, neutrality, and strict adherence to the law while carrying out election-related duties. Security officers were reminded that public confidence in the electoral process depends greatly on their conduct and ability to guarantee a safe environment for all participants.
Discussions during the meeting centered on security planning, intelligence gathering, operational readiness, and coordination among various stakeholders involved in the electoral process. Police commanders were briefed on the Electoral Commission’s plans and timelines for the upcoming elections and encouraged to work closely with election officials at both regional and district levels.
The engagement also focused on identifying and addressing potential security challenges that may arise during the election period. Authorities discussed measures to prevent violence, manage crowds, respond to emergencies, and ensure the safety of voters, candidates, election officials, and electoral materials throughout the exercise.
With the Local Council and Women Council elections drawing closer, the meeting signaled the government’s commitment to ensuring that the electoral process is conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner. Security agencies pledged their readiness to provide the necessary support and maintain stability across the country during the polls.
The upcoming elections are expected to play a significant role in strengthening grassroots leadership and community representation. As preparations continue, both the Electoral Commission and the Uganda Police Force have expressed confidence that close collaboration and effective planning will contribute to free, fair, and peaceful elections nationwide.
