Kin Kariisa Expands Media Empire As Next Media Takes Over Capital Radio

Must read

Businessman and media entrepreneur Kin Kariisa has further strengthened his position as one of Uganda’s biggest media owners after acquiring 100 percent ownership of Capital Radio 2015 Limited. The landmark acquisition adds some of the country’s most recognizable radio brands to the growing Next Media family, marking a major development in Uganda’s media industry.

According to information confirmed by sources with direct knowledge of the transaction, Kariisa completed the acquisition through Next Media Services Limited and in his personal capacity. The deal involved the purchase of all 2,024 issued shares in Capital Radio 2015 Limited from former shareholders, including Patrick Quarcoo and William Pike.

Under the new ownership structure, Next Media Services Limited acquired 1,417 shares, representing about 70.01 percent of the company. Kariisa personally acquired the remaining 607 shares, giving him a direct personal stake of approximately 29.99 percent.

The arrangement gives Kariisa complete control of Capital Radio 2015 Limited, both through his personal shareholding and his majority ownership via Next Media Services. However, the value of the transaction and other commercial details have not been made public.

The acquisition significantly expands the reach of Next Media, which already owns and operates several leading media platforms in Uganda. With the addition of Capital FM, Beat FM and KIIS 100.9 FM, the company now has an even stronger presence in the country’s radio broadcasting sector.

Next Media has built a strong reputation through its television stations, radio platforms, digital publishing, streaming services, sports coverage and events. The latest acquisition is expected to strengthen the company’s ability to reach wider audiences across different media platforms.

Industry observers say the deal is one of the most significant media transactions Uganda has seen in recent years. Bringing the Capital Radio brands under the Next Media umbrella could reshape competition in the broadcasting industry and create new opportunities for content creation, advertising and audience engagement.

Although neither Next Media nor the previous owners have publicly disclosed the financial terms of the agreement, the acquisition highlights Kariisa’s continued investment in Uganda’s media sector. Many will now be watching closely to see how Next Media integrates the Capital Radio brands while maintaining their unique identity and loyal audience.
