Police have arrested 17 suspects in connection with the murder of David Owor, a captain of Sports Club Villa, as investigations into the killing continue to uncover more details about the group allegedly behind the attack.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police, the suspects include three people suspected of promoting stolen phones, five key suspects and nine other individuals believed to be associates of the prime suspects.
Police said the arrests followed investigations into Owor’s death and related attacks allegedly carried out by the group in different parts of Kampala.
During interrogation, the five key suspects reportedly told detectives that the group had been carrying out attacks on members of the public, allegedly using paving blocks, commonly known as pavers, to attack their victims.
The suspects also reportedly identified several people they claimed were involved in the criminal activities.
Police said investigations indicate that on the night of August 4, 2026, the suspects and other members of the group who are still at large allegedly moved as a gang and attacked unsuspecting members of the public in areas around Nsambya, Nabisaalu, Kirombe and Makindye.
Owor was allegedly attacked during the same night. Police said the group robbed him of his mobile phone during the attack before he was killed.
A major breakthrough came when detectives recovered an iPhone 14 Pro Max at Usafi Taxi Park, near Usafi Market in Kampala. Police suspect the phone belonged to Owor.
Further searches were carried out at the residences of some of the suspects in Gangu Village, Kasubi, Kampala, where detectives recovered several items believed to be important to the investigation.
Among the recovered exhibits were two pairs of shoes, one of which reportedly had bloodstains and is suspected to be linked to the incident.
Police also recovered a pair of shin guards from a black bag. The shin guards are suspected to have belonged to Owor. Other items recovered include a canister of pepper spray, a motorcycle and additional exhibits that police said could help investigators establish what happened.
The discovery of the suspected bloodstained shoes and Owor’s sports equipment could provide investigators with important evidence as they piece together the events surrounding the fatal attack.
Police said investigations are still ongoing and efforts are underway to trace and arrest the remaining suspects and other associates allegedly linked to the group.
Kampala Metropolitan Police has urged the public to remain vigilant and assist investigators with information that could help bring all those responsible to justice.
