Must read

Police have arrested a Sino truck driver identified as Oponya Martin at Maya Checkpoint in Mpigi District after he allegedly failed to stop when directed by Traffic Police officers.

The driver, who was operating a truck with registration number UA 367AM, reportedly ignored instructions from officers during a routine traffic operation. He was later intercepted, and further checks revealed that he was driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police also found that Oponya was driving without a valid driving licence, an offence that puts the lives of other road users at risk.

Following his arrest, the driver was taken to Maya Police Station, where he is currently being detained as he awaits court proceedings.

The owner of the truck has also been charged with permitting a person without a valid driving licence to operate the vehicle.

Traffic Police have reiterated their commitment to enforcing road safety laws and taking action against motorists whose actions endanger the lives of passengers, pedestrians, and other road users.

Police continue to urge all drivers to follow traffic regulations, avoid driving under the influence of alcohol, and ensure they have valid documentation before operating vehicles.
