Police have made a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the murder of Villa Football Club captain Owor David after recovering more than 130 suspected stolen mobile phones and arresting two people believed to be linked to the illegal phone trade.
According to police, investigations established that Owor David was robbed of his iPhone 14 Pro Max during the incident that led to his death. Officers used tracking technology to follow the stolen phone, which eventually led them to two suspects identified as Munyaneza Bashir, alias “Jemo”, a suspected dealer in stolen mobile phones, and his associate Magoba Samuel.
Following the leads from the tracked phone, police conducted an operation that resulted in the recovery of four bags containing a large number of suspected stolen electronic devices. The recovered items include 80 iPhones, 40 Samsung phones, eight Redmi phones, two Tecno phones, two Infinix phones, two Vivo phones, three button phones, four phone motherboards, and three iPads.
Police also recovered several SIM cards from different networks, including MTN, Safaricom, Airtel, and Lyca. Other items found during the operation included ladies’ bags containing identification documents, phone covers, and hard drives.
Authorities believe the recovered items could help uncover a wider network involved in stealing, handling, and selling stolen mobile phones. Investigations are still ongoing to establish the full extent of the operation and link the recovered exhibits to various theft cases reported in different areas.
Police said further inquiries will be conducted to identify more suspects and return recovered property to its rightful owners where possible. The investigation into the death of Owor David and the suspected stolen phone network remains active.
