Police in Mityana Municipality have arrested 10 people during an intelligence-led operation targeting crime hotspots in Buswabulongo Cell, following growing complaints from residents over burglaries, theft and other criminal activities.

The operation was carried out in the morning hours of Saturday, September 5, 2026, by officers from Mityana Central Police Station working together with local leaders in the area.

Police said the operation followed reports from residents about an increase in burglaries and thefts, including the snatching of mobile phones and handbags. Residents had also raised concerns about substance abuse and people moving around with offensive weapons such as pangas and knives.

During the operation, security teams arrested 10 people from different crime hotspot areas within Buswabulongo Cell. The suspects include nine males and one female.

The suspects are currently being held at Mityana Central Police Station, where they are undergoing screening and processing before being taken to court, according to police.

Wamala Region Police spokesperson, SSP L. Kigozi, said the operation is part of the police’s efforts to respond to concerns raised by residents and maintain security in Mityana Municipality and the wider Mityana District.

Police said similar operations will continue in other areas that have been identified as crime hotspots across Mityana Municipality and the wider district.

The crackdown is intended to prevent criminal activities and create a safer environment for residents to carry out their social and economic activities without fear.
