Police in Kampala have arrested three suspects and recovered a stolen iPhone 11 following investigations into a phone theft that reportedly happened during King Saha’s show in Kololo on August 15, 2026.
The case came to police attention after a video circulated on social media showing a woman crying after reportedly losing her mobile phone during the event. The video attracted attention and prompted police to begin intelligence-led inquiries aimed at identifying the people behind the theft and tracing the missing phone.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, investigations led to the arrest of Lubwama Abud, also known as Mafia. During questioning, Lubwama reportedly told police that he had stolen the iPhone 11 and later sold it to a man identified as Ssentongo Joseph.
Police officers then followed the leads to Nateete Central A Zone, where they arrested Ssentongo. The suspected stolen iPhone 11 was recovered from him. Police also recovered a pink phone cover from Ssentongo’s bag, which was reportedly the same cover that had been on the phone when it was stolen.
Further investigations revealed that the phone had not simply remained in Ssentongo’s possession. Police established that he had taken it to another suspect, identified as Sserunjogi Kasim, who allegedly helped unlock the device at Kalungi Mall so that it could be used.
The three suspects are currently being held by police as investigations continue. Police are also pursuing other people believed to have played a role in the theft and the process of unlocking the suspected stolen phone.
Police said they are working to identify and trace the rightful owner of the recovered iPhone 11. They are also seeking to establish where the original theft case was reported so that the matter can be properly handled.
The recovery highlights the role that information shared on social media can play in helping law enforcement trace stolen property and identify suspects. Police have urged members of the public who lose valuable items to promptly report the matter and provide any available information that could assist investigations.
