Police in Nakaseke District are investigating a chilling case of suspected double murder that has left the community of Wakayamba Village in shock. Two people a woman and her three-year-old granddaughter were found dead late Wednesday night under suspicious circumstances.
According to a press statement issued by ASP Twiineamazima Sam, PRO of the Savannah Region, the deceased have been identified as Nakato Specioza, a peasant resident of Wakayamba Village, and her granddaughter, Sheilla, aged 3.
The incident is said to have occurred at around 9:00 PM on the night of April 23, but was only reported to police the following morning. Preliminary reports indicate that Specioza had sent her 17-year-old son, Ssemambo Ibrahim, to a nearby trading centre at around 5:00 PM, leaving her and Sheilla preparing supper.
When Ssemambo returned home later that evening, he found the food still boiling unattended, the front security lights off, and no sign of his mother or niece. Inside the house, clothes were scattered and valuables appeared to be missing. A blood-stained stick was also discovered, prompting him to call a neighbour, Sekibenga, for help.
The two followed drag marks from the cooking area to a nearby coffee plantation, where they made the gruesome discovery of the bodies.
Police swiftly responded to the scene after being alerted, collecting witness statements and deploying a canine unit. The dog led investigators to a suspect’s home, resulting in an arrest. Several exhibits were recovered and the bodies were taken to Nakaseke Hospital for a postmortem examination.
A case of suspected murder has been officially registered, and investigations are ongoing. More details will follow as the story develops.
